Travel:
When travelling
from or to the airport, or to move around in the city, plan your itinerary at http://journeyplanner.9292.nl/
Note that you do
need a travel card [called ‘ov-kaart’] to be able to use any tram, bus or metro
in Amsterdam. For just the train you’ll fine without one, but once you do have
one you can also use it for the train. For most of you an anonymous card would
be fine. It’s the same system as the London Oyster Cards. Updated information on
the hows and wheres of these travel cards can be found at http://www.gvb.nl/english/travellers/tickets-and-fares/ov-chipkaart-travel-products/Pages/ov-chipkaart-travel-products.aspx
From Schiphol
Airport:
General
information on the airport can be found at http://www.schiphol.com/
Your itinerary
would depend on where your accomodation is located, but here’s the route to the
venue, directly from the airport: take the train at the airport to go to
‘treinstation RAI’. From there, take the metro to the Wibautstraat. Get off
there for a five minute walk to the venue. The way back to the airport , after
class is the same route. The whole trip takes about 35 to 40 minutes.
By train:
From the central
trainstation to the venue, the easiest and most direct route is using the
metro. Get off at the Wibautstraat, and you’re less than a five minute walk
from the venue.
From the Amstel
trainstation [900 meters] it’s approx. 13 minutes walk.
By car:
Amsterdam is the
most expensive city in the world to park your car, so think twice before you
take your car into town. A cheap option
is to park at the P&R [Park & Ride] Amsterdam Arena, just outside of
town, on the Burgemeester Stramanweg 130. Included in the affordable parking
fee [currently €6,- per 24 hours] is a public transport ticket for a return
trip by metro. That will get you to the Wibautstraat in about 20 minutes. More
information on the P&R [in Dutch!]: http://www.bereikbaaramsterdam.nl/live/main.asp?display_framework=garage&item_id=21&p_en_r=true
Traffic in the
Amsterdam area and all roads leading to and from our capital is very busy and
unpredictable. Take this into account when planning your trip by car. On
Sundays parking near the venue itself is free of charge.
